Simple Machines Forum

Does anyone around here participate in forum-based multiplayer RPG? After trying my hand at various
other types of MMORPG and ORPG, I kind of settled on this genre of RPG. I mean, I do play other
types of RPGs but I am kind of hooked on to forum based RPG. Are there anyone out there, who would
like to discuss on this? Note to moderators: I am sorry if there is a topic on this already. I
tried searching for it, but could not find it. Pardon me, as I am new to these boards....

I do not know too much about Forums (or Bulletin Boards) and Forum Programming (I am having trouble

I am trying to decide which forum software I should install for my site. I need something free
(obviously) and I need a good choice. I think phpBB works great but I am also interested in trying
IceBB. Simple Machines Forum is time-consuming to configure and I don't like Invision Power
Board (and that isn't free). I have tried testing out the forums at OpenSourceCMS but there
were way too many choices and the forums were just completely overwhelming to try them all out.

Which do you like better: PhpBB2 or Incision Power Board? PHPbb2: Pros- lots of mods a lot of
skins popularity functionality ease of use free Cons- security IPB: Pros- a lot of skins security

My question is, is AstraHost reliable for uploading forum software such as SMF, Vbulletin and
Invisionpowerboad. According to the requirements i need 10 or 30 credits and the space gets higher.
Which would be better for running a forum? personally i think 30 would be too much but im unsure as

What free forum is it easiest to create custom skins for. In the past I used PHBB and successfully
created one skin, but it was a very harsh thing to do and took a long time, I had to edit many
files. I am thinking about using Simple Machine Forums (SMF) as my next forum platform (I'm only
interested in free forum platforms at the moment though I have heard great stories of v Bulletin).
Is it difficult to create skins, or layouts for this Forum Platform? If any one has any experience

What is the best way to Drive Traffic to a Forum, and Get users to actually Register? Are there any

Alright, I've been looking into Free Forum Platforms, people have recommended Simple Machine
Forum to me as the best free forum. However, in the opinion of your own, what do you guys think is
