I also performed this in the 80's, my time was also about 2'15''. Rubik's Cube, How Many Faces Do You Do ?

rubix cube, i think its typed that way, there are only 2 persons in the world that can complete the hole cube, my record stands in 4 faces, im still trying to beat it, how about you, how many faces do you do ?

Seriously? I don't think there are only two people in the world that can complete the whole cube. I currently already know two people who can complete the Rubix cube, and there must a lot more than just the two people I know who can finish it. I've seen some Rubix cube solving contests (where people solve them really quickly in around twenty or so seconds), so there must be more than two.

I so far can only solve two faces, but I think if you look on the following sites you might be able to get some help as to how to solve it (I just did a quick Google search):
http://lar5.com/cube/
http://www.speedcubing.com/chris/

I actually remember there was a club at my school dedicated to Rubix cube solving...don't know how many members they managed to teach though. Although maybe you're talking about a 4x4x4/5x5x5 Rubix cube? Because then the number of people who can solve them might be significantly smaller. (Not to mention the number of stores you can obtain them at biggrin.gif)

Most people aged 50 - 60 can do (or could do) the cube or perhaps 5 faces. I always got stuck on the last 4 corner pieces. I once saw a young lad about 9 making a lot of money on the sea front by asking people to mix up a cube. He would then look at it for a few seconds and place it in a sort of cloth tube so that he couldn't see it and after less than a minute would bring it out perfect. (No he didn't have a spare in the tube) They had only been out for a few weeks at the time. His best time while I was watching was 43 secs.Rubik puzzles were also popular with my father in law then in his late 70's. He would take maybe 2 minutes and was the fastest in our family. My daughter says thequickest way is just to take the stickers off.

Hey ... I'm into speedcubing. I can do the whole cube averaging anywhere from 2.5 - 3 minutes. If anyone is interested, I would recommend the following site for beginners:

http://jeays.net/rubiks.htm

Very clear explanations and easy to follow. That's the one I used and I'm still using the same algorithms explained there.

Oh the Rubik's cube, fun times. I was interested in it for a while 3 years ago and completed it several times. I reckon my best was around 8 minutes.

Of course now I forgot all the special tricks and combinations, but this page sparkled some interest again. I may go at it again just to relearn myself the combination for showing off at several events.

"Oh hey look, I just happen to have a Rubik's in my pocket !"

My last rubik's cube had a little guide that came with it, with arrows etc of some of the combination tricks for moving a combination of tiles to specific spots. I'll try finding that again as the illustrations made it much easier to grasp than text on a computer screen.

First of all, it's Rubik. tongue.gif Secondly, I once had a Rubik's Cube solving course at this special gifted children school. I was never really good at it, but some of my friends managed to solve the whole thing in less than 3 minutes, and we were about 11. Well, we were gifted... biggrin.gif Haven't played with it in quite a while, and never really liked it either.

@seec77, we had a club like that at our school. Though it wasn't really for the gifted, the founder of the club said that anyone could attend. Although I didn't really attend, from what I speculated, there wasn't anything done in the club that actually required a lot of thinking. Most of the people just followed what the club leader said (the algorithms he proposed, that is) and finished the cube. Then, after some practice they finished faster and faster, and so forth. I don't think any of them actually try to develop their own algorithms, although my scope is only limited to my friends who are in the club. smile.gif

Give a screwdriver and I'll solve any cube.
Don't you guys think this is boring? I mean after you wrote these algorhithms on platine, it is only about brain/body coordination. I have more fun with martial arts, which is coordination too.

Yeah, there's plenty of people who can solve it. I once knew a guy who could solve a 3x3x3 cube in under a minute, no matter how hard I twisted it. Genius.

It really depends on the number of cubes for each face. It goes from nine to about 16, I think.

I'm pretty sure it's spelled "Rubik's Cube".

problem solving the 3X3 cube
Rubik's Cube, How Many Faces Do You Do ?

I used to solve the rubix cube without any problems and at times without much looking at it (best time was 2.23 minutes).. It was back in the early 80s'. My method was first fixing the four top corners and then the bottom cornerns. I would then fit in the crosses. I have forgotton that way. Has any one got the solution as per the above method?

On youtube there's this amzing video of a 81 by 81 cube, which someone actually managed to do. And I also think that it's impossible to do 5 faces because for all the other one's to be complete none can be out of place, so therefore the 6 face has to be complete. I think the max you can do without solving it is 4 or so, becuas for every 1 you miss out another one has to have been mucked up. Neone agree or disagree with me?

I don't think there are only 2 people who can solve the rubix cube. Personally I can solve the rubix cube although u need to give me a good 5-10 minutes or so to work it out.
Some of the videos on youtube of people finishing rubix cubes in seconds are quite amazing!
It requires alot of training and thought but once you get the hang of it the patterns become easy to spot and easy to twist around and make the faces all the same colour.
