- (21)
QUOTE Symantec: Windows is Most Secure OS hackers.jpgIn a report that surprises even the PC
lovers around here (read: me), Symantec has listed Microsoft Windows as the most secure OS out
there. They claim that Windows had the fewest number of patches and the shortest patch development
time of any OS, including Mac, Red Hat Linux, Solaris, and HP-UX (any HP-UX fanboys in the house?).
So what in the hell is going on? We've been spoon-fed all this data that says Windows is about
as secure as a screen door while Macs are perfectly safe, yet OS X came in 3rd in the ...

Help: Adding My Videos Folder To Start Menu
- Windows XP Only (12)
Okay, I am halfway to being able to add the My Videos Folder (the only of the special My folder I
really use) to the start panel. For those of you who don't know what I am talking about, make
sure you have the new XP start menu not classic, then open your start menu. The right side is the
start panel, and it should have links to things like My Documents, My Music, My Computer, etc. The
only one you can't add to it (you add features to it from the properties page) is the My Videos
File. No, my method: 1) Knowing Windows as well as I do, first thing after ex...

Ubuntu 7.10 + Windows Xp Dual Boot
- how to reinstall GRUB after windows reinstall (9)
Ok so for a long time I had my dual boot working great, windows and ubuntu. But 2 days ago my
windows required a wipe and clean install because of some issues, like it usually happens after 8
months. So I reinstalled windows, well, first deleted the windows partition using the windows XP
install CD. Then assigned a partition for windows (same size) and left the ubuntu and swap partition
intact. But of course, windows deletes GRUB and replace it with their boot info, so now I can't
boot ubuntu (I can't choose). How can I reinstall GRUB without having to reinstal...

Remote Desktop Connection in Windows Vista What is Remote Desktop ? Remote Desktop Connections
can save time and aggravation: It's a technology already installed in Windows Vista that lets
you sit at a computer in one place and connect to another computer in a completely different
physical location away from you. For example, you can leave programs running on your computer at
work and then see them the same way you do at work when you turn on your computer at home. You can
be miles away from the work computer but be working on it as if you had never left the off...
Downgrade Windows MCE To XP?
- (9)
Is it possible to downgrade a Windows Media Center Edition computer to use Windows XP instead?
Someone is having so much problems with this machine and I think it's the Operating System
causing the problem. I told her to reinstall Windows MCE, but I don't think they gave her any
Windows CDs. I think she got it burned from a recovery partition after I told her to look for one.
But that doesn't seem to work. So I'm thinking of downgrading to XP as a possible solution.
Isn't Windows MCE very similar to Windows XP, aside from the extra media features? Th...
The Best Version Of Windows
- (51)
With all the different flavors of Windows, what in your opinion is the best version? Win95, Win98,
Win98SE, WinNT, Win2000, WinXP, Vista, and even remember Windows 3.1? I hear that hardcore Windows
users are in love with Win98SE for some reason? Is there any justification behind this? I mean
this is a version of Windows that is definitely not supported anymore, but is the security and
stability of this version that much better where it doesn't need support? Personally, I really
like Win2000 over any other version. It seems more secure and stable, and I'm pr...

Using Same Serial # On Multiple Copies Of Windows

I heard it is possible to run more than one computers on the same serial of Windows. I also heard
that it can be registered and use all the functions of any legal copy of Windows. Lets say I have 4
computers in my house and don't want to pay $800 for windows on each one if I build them all
myself. I can just put same serial on all of them. But I heard this is also breaking the EULA
agreement with Microsoft which redeems this being illegal or improper use of windows. I would like
to hear your sides on this, or the whole truth behind this. If so does this mean somebody...

So my uncle asks me to format his computer and install windows and stuff. So I did like I do with my
PC every six months. No problems at all, everything was working. So I proceeded to install drivers,
which I had already on my flash drive, a 2GB PNY flash drive. But, for some reason, the usb drive
was not recognized by windows XP on my uncle's PC, and I tried again on another port. No luck. I
was thinking maybe all the usb ports were broken or something... but then I went to my desktop and
proceeded to connect my usb drive to burn the drivers on to a CD. And what...

flaked out and I have no internet on the computer in question now. I'm not sure what happened,
but for some reason, McAfee is telling me that it's all screwed up on startup. So it's not
even running anymore. My computer does recognize USB keys, but will not see my iPod for some
reason. Any ideas?...

Extremely Slow Hdd Operations On Windows Xp
- (12)
On the first of this month I benchmarked my system running on Win XP using FreshDiagnose. The Hard
Disk Benchmark showed 32 MB/s Write Speed & 40 MB/s Read Speed for my first Hard Drive & 35 MB/s by
51 MB/s for the second. Since yesterday all the operations on the first HDD (360 GB) have become
extremely slow. A ~700 MB file copy operation on the same drive which used to take less than a
minute, now requires 7-10 minutes. I tried re-fitting the SATA & power cables for the drives but
that didn't help. The other drive (80 GB) is working fine. A dying drive is out of th...

How to enable User Secure Login on Windows Vista You may have worked in a business,

business environments "require" you to press the key combination of CTRL + ALT + DELETE prior to the
