| | Hi all, First of all thanks to szupie for the idea. We've a new irc channel for this board on Dal.Net - try joining any of the dalnet servers (irc.dal.net) and join the channel #AstaHost - it's up for a test run and we've had quite a few of the mods already visiting the place. Let's give it a shot for a few days and see if we can use this to help out in the Hosting Support Program... plus it'll act as a much faster alternative for the shoutbox. Flip side is, if this works out well, the shoutbox here will almost die out.. Let me know your opinions/views. |

This sounds like it could be a nice idea but I have a question: What is an "irc channel"? Please forgive my ignorance but I'm not familiar with the concept of "irc". I get the impression that it's some sort of instant messenger or chatroom. Just a reminder: When introducing new ideas/concepts, please don't assume that everyone is familiar with all technical terms and abbreviations. I'm eager to learn about this new "irc" thing and give it a test drive. So I pasted irc.dal.net into my browser but it timed out. Am I doing something wrong?

All right no probs First grab an IRC Client: mIRC (www.mirc.com) is the best, according to me.. Once you have that, start it and type /server irc.dal.net and you'll connect to the desired server. Next you've to type: /join #AstaHost and you'll be placed in that channel. OPaque suggested we create a channel called Xisto and get all members from AstaHost, Trap17 and ComputingHost to come together there... All three channels and existent now. Feel free to join any of them. Joining is done by: /join #channelname.

You guys are really getting intense here. I stay away from irc because it’s addictive and you burn up a lot of time, especially in the warez department. The kind of devotion I see here you guys all deserve a medal. I have too much responsibility to devote this kind of time. Good luck with the project it’s a good one.

"Warez"--now there's another concept I'm not real familiar with. All I know about that, is that it is some kind of illegal/unethical software.

Agree with Rudy - irc burns your up completely.. it's the most addictive chat among all... but lets behave like grown ups (lol) and try to limit ourselves to the real purpose of this channel.. lol.. yeah, I can clearly see how far we're going to go

So, can I logon with a "logging bot" unless someone is going to post excerpts and logs here for me to read I have opened up for IM but I don't think I can put a mIrc client on my work computer I used to go on mIrc about 13 years ago and I stopped after all the exploits there got to be to many to keep track of. We can also have meetings take place on IRC, as it is easier to do so in a chatroom style... chatting... protocol... That is, IF we would have meetings... but if we do, it'd be great to do so with IRC.

I've been a long time IRC'r, and an op on #mirchelp (EFnet). Is there anyway we can possibly have the astahost channel be on efnet? Or even have a channel on both, and tie them together? (I've seen that done a few times, the setup can be surprisingly simple if the channel isn't too busy.) -YB *Addicted to IRC, and proud of it* /quit I'm trapped on the internet...

Thank you m^e. Currently the plan is that all moderators at astahost will be givne auto-ops. Which means, I would like all of you to drop by sometime, register a nick with NickServ, let me know what it is. I'm also working on a new bot for the channel, from scratch. Anyone who would be willing to help is gladly accepted. ~Viz

NOTICE: [/tab]Since I wasn't able to come online for a long period spanning over last two months, our IRC channel has got dropped (as it's linked with the founder's nickname, which expires after 30 days of not logging in, consequently dropping the channel too). I was scared that we'd loose the channel, but to my great relief I found that vizskywalker has taken the initiative and re-registered it and then on has been taking care of it quite capably. [tab]Henceforth, all queries regarding the channel should be directed at him and so will be, any requests for being made AOP/SOP of the channel. I'm there to help out of course - but he's the primary person in charge of the whole matter. Good luck viz. Regards, m^e

For some reason, I can't access the IRC through IE (which I used to do), but it is cool, because mIRC is a lot better. TrianGulum, if you live anywhere in the UK, it is more than likely you wont be able to access the chat.
