I'm involved in a research project this summer (no I can't say much about it, sorry) and it would be very helpful for us to be able to work with the Jikes RVM. For those of you who don't know what it is, the best source of information is the
Jikes home page. Otherwise, suffice it to say that it is a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) that can be customized and have parts rewritten by the user. This means that you can tell how adding things to or removing things from or changing things in the JVM would affect performance, memory usage, or anything. However, we are having issues installing the RVM. As near as I can tell, when fetching the GNU Classpath dependencies, it has issues with something (not sure what because the error is that it can't cd to a directory because the directory doesn't exist, but the directory does exist, and the permissions are appropriate).
If anyone has any experience with the Jikes RVM, and especially with installing it for Intel OSX, and could provide any helpful suggestions, I would be appreciative. I can't post screenshots, and I'm not sure what level of error messages I'm allowed to give out, so this could be a difficult task to diagnose the issue, but I'd appreciate any help.
