Hamachi - Local Networking... world wide!

Lately, a few of my friends have been talking about this program called Hamachi. If you don't know, it basically allows you to start a network with a bunch of your friends. It basically is like having all your friends on your LAN.

You can share files, play games, etc. as if they were there! You can also play games with them LAN style instead of over the Internet.

It's pretty cool! Check out the hamachi website at http://www.hamachi.cc

I can't get Hamachi to work with my games. Any help would be appreciated. I've been reading up on it, and some people say that I need to forward my ports. Is there a way to get this working otherwise?

Ah, Hamachi. Reminds me of something that happened many months ago. I used to visit MMORPG private servers, however since stopped due to their illegality. Anyways, I'll go on. The particular MMORPG was very popular for private servers, complete idiots even ran them! All it took was downloading a program and running said program after editing a little HTML. People apparently didn't know how to portforward and make their private server publically accessable, so they turned to hamachi to make it easier. In that way, by allowing complete strangers access to their network, they compromised security. My last main use of hamachi was several months ago. I had an old 1997 game that I wanted to play with a friend on the internet. It didn't have an online play option, so we used hamachi to make it work.

It's a pretty good piece of software, and far easier than setting up a VPN.

I don't use Hamachi anymore since all the multiplayer games I have like Counter Strike Source and Team Fortress 2 run on the Steam platform and I can easily connect with friends using their integrated Steam community, which makes it easier for you to connect to the same server as you friends.

Hamachi is a god sent gift for all the Internet users and gamers with dynamic IP addresses. We use it on our LAN for playing counter strike and it has worked flawlessly with no issues at all. It includes built-in chat system to instantly connect to other user besides file sharing with ease.

Somebody said about port forwardiong here, well it isn't needed to use hamachi and play games over lan, I don't know what was the case (s)he was using on. Even then portforwarding on dynamic IP addresses is pretty easy job depending on the router being used. portforward.com is the one stop resource for everything on portfowarding.

Hamachi is great for Private LAN by internet u can play almost everygame that has LAN support Share files printers everything that a real lan network has

Now who have problem with hamachi i remmomend the following

1º Please check if the Versions of hamachi are the same as your partners
2º Open the necessary ports in your router if you have to let hamachi data pass
3ºCheck if you and your partner have the same version of the game or some program dry.gif

I hope i could help someone

I tried using Hamachi to play starcraft 2 but for some reason it did not work for me, I could not get connected to anyone. So I just quit with it.

But I hear that Vista has a lot of compatibility issues.

Here is some possible solutions...

1) Open the appropriate ports for Hamachi in the router (port forwarding).

2) Completely disable Windows firewall: Enter administrative options for the system and turn off the firewall in three places (domain, private and public networks), aside from disabling it from the security center.

3) Also open ports in Windows firewall (for Hamachi) just in case.

4) Set up a static IP address for your home network and set the Hamachi network to 'private' status and enabled file-sharing for it.

5) In the Hamachi program options, uncheck the box that says 'disable vulnerable Windows services' or whatever.

You could also look through the official user's guide and the unofficial guide for more suggestions:

Hope I could be of some help!

You have to put hamachi on top of your network list, control panel->networks->manage networks->press alt to get options to show (don't know the word for english)-> choose avdanced options(?) (its second from left)->advanced options (from bottom) -> from the upper window choose hamachi and with the green arrows move it to top of the list. Ok/close

Control panel->networks-> ip adress manually->choose hamachi->options (left mouse)->internet protocol 4->options (?)->use this ip->put manually your hamachi ip and subnet mask is 255.0.0.0 and gateway is 5.0.0.1->advanced (?)->metric value 10->ok/close

Might need to reboot, but I`m not sure about that.

Start hamachi->start cod4, make dedicated lan server, (all players->) start game, console, connect x.X.X.X (hamachi ip of the server)

Same connect thing goes with cod5, in call of juarez 2 players will see the server in lan-lobby, in grid: race driver lobby also works.

But for some games you have to open right ports from your modem, you need to google those, I have 30 ports opened, I don't remember which are for those games I mentioned.

I heard so much about this program...So I finally downloaded it thinking it a easy was of connecting for lan sessions. I'm in the IT field so I'm computer literate...Yet I cant seem  to get anything working, so far apart from chat which works I think its main purpose for me, ie games...Seems a waste of time. None of the online help actually gives good advise on how to set up hamachi for games. They only tell you how to get the program up and running in windows. How bout someone that has it working gives a step by step on how to get a certain game working through hamachi...Anyone able to help?
