"Hacker" also implies is willing to break to enter dude, "Hack" is from "hacksaw".
Cracking is just breaking security codes to gain entry but there isn't
the implication that you proceeded to trespass, merely defeated the
security. If you are trying to imply that either is honorable you are
mislead or ignorant. Hitler was a hero to other Nazis... But still a
hate mongering butcher to history. FYI one of them "ckers"
(and I DO mean to apply a vulgarity) successfully stole $1200 and tried
for another $1400 from my suburban home network that is not used for
business. Or do you think credit card numbers aren't private property?
It makes no difference if the front door to someone else's house is
open. If you go in and take things you are a burglar and a thief, If
you merely enter you are a trespasser unless you have permission and
a burglar if the intent is malicious. (and an excellent candidate for
dog food or gunshot trauma in each scenario). ...Anything that comes
with you when you leave would be stolen including your testimony in
public about what you saw there and information in any form digital,
written. (in any type of language) or photographic, though you have to
try to profit to be prosecuted there.
Usually.
If you break a window to gain access to a house in order to take property that doers't belong to you INCLUDING information it is burglary with breaking and entering and a similar crime to merely stealing with greater penalties for going to the extent of breaking to enter. Bottom line: if you go into a computer that is not your property for any reason without permission you are at minimum a trespasser. At maximum I suppose a traitor to your nation or a spy depending upon whose system you're in. Traitors and spies are subject to capital punishment under certain circumstances.
I should point out that thieves, hackers, and other criminals enjoy more of the privacy protections that most other citizens. Thank God the leaders of our Nation were once intelligent men. ...And perhaps are again for at least 4 years..
So... To recap Hacker or cracker the maximum penalty could be death by execution. ...And you still think it's an innocent pastime? Unfortunately periods of hard labor and public flogging aren't available as punishment. It's a pity that our society pretends not to like any sort of voyeuristic spectacles of that sort and then proceeds to make idiotic reality shows #1. Normally I shun them but even I would watch hackers, crackers, and thieves get whipped bloody or worked to collapse any day... I'd even buy a lotto ticket for a chance to wield the whip!-reply by IR8D8R
