Gmail Problems : How To Overcome

Sometimes its noted that gmaill servers donot respond after u login. Its mainly because of ur cache. Deleted the temporary internet files and empty u r cache..

How to empy Cache?

click start button the click RUN

type in cmd { goto to command promt}

in the DOS window type

ipconfig/flushdns

the dns cache will be emptied. This will also improve u r browsing speed ..

Try it.. Its a small tutorial but newbies ca learn frm it..

Is this the same thing as in firefox go into tools>options then click Clear Cache? I never really did get what that button does, but i assumed that it was something like cookies. I don't see how that speeds it up though, could you explain?

Thanks!

Yup. It's the very same button. While the cache should actually speed up your browsing it does sometimes cause problems as your browser tries to load parts of the page from the cache to reduce the load time. With pages with static content - this definitely improves the speed, but more often you'd find the load time increasing for dynamic pages. Most likely this arises out of the discrepancy in the old cached data and the freshly generated pages in such cases. Clearing the cache always worked for me to load gmail properly - everytime without fail. Keep in mind that In firefox you have two different buttons for clearing your Cookies & your Cache.

Is there any way to only clear the cache for a particular site, for example gmail? I don't want to clear all of my cache just to make one page work. I don't think this is possible in Firefox, but can you do it in IE?

I have noticed that once you login you get redirected to a "blank page". I noticed that this mainly only happens on IE 6. If anyone has this problem try using firefox to avoid the clearing the cache. Or whatever works for you. Thanks for the tip, I usually just switch browsers, but I'll give this a go.

well, in Internet Explorer, cache is stored in folder named:
CODE

C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

So, there you can find anything that has "Internet address" gmail.com or google.com and delete ONLY those files. Make sure to close your IE window before doing that... That should do the trick...

If anyone here is using Opera to access gmail, you may want to use http://mail.google.com/mail/h/1w7wc4zqbeqor/?f=1
This uses the basic gmail html interface without most of the bells and whistles. It's good enough for me to check my new email quickly and move on. smile.gif

the is the "html simplified view" from gmail.
If you don't want to remember this complicated link, you can simply connect "like usual" to gmail.com, you get the standard gmal screen. At the botton of the "bells and whistles" screen (the line before the last one) you see a clickable menu, on that menu you click on the "simplified html view" and you switch to the simplified view matthewk mentionned. When being in this simplified view, if you suddenly want to chat with a contact, you click on the "standard view" link, and you are back to the full gmail screen. Nice switcher, isn't it ?

Yordan
